A law firm located in San Rafael, California, is actively seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney with 2-7 years of experience to join its legal team, focusing on representing plaintiffs in complex mass tort litigation. This role presents an opportunity for a skilled litigator to manage cases from initial intake through final resolution, working closely with experienced attorneys and dedicated legal staff. The ideal candidate will bring a strong passion for client advocacy and a proven ability to navigate challenging, high-stakes cases in a collaborative environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and advance a docket of mass tort cases, handling all phases from client onboarding to settlement, trial, or other resolution.
  • Draft a wide range of legal documents, including initial filings, pleadings, discovery requests, responses, and substantive motions.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research to support case arguments, client communications, and court submissions.
  • Participate actively in discovery processes, including drafting and responding to written discovery, managing document production, and preparing for and conducting depositions.
  • Represent clients in court appearances, motion hearings, mediations, and settlement discussions.
  • Work closely with senior legal counsel and cross-functional staff to craft innovative case strategies tailored to each matter.
  • Maintain regular and responsive communication with clients, keeping them informed of case developments while managing their expectations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to track deadlines, ensure compliance with procedural rules, and uphold high professional standards.

Required Education & Licensing:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree conferred by a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Current, active license to practice law in the State of California.

Experience & Professional Background:

  • A minimum of two years and up to approximately seven years of relevant legal experience, with a strong preference for candidates with prior exposure to mass tort litigation or similar high-volume, plaintiff-focused practice areas.
  • Prior experience managing a significant caseload, drafting substantive pleadings, and participating in court proceedings.
  • Familiarity with both state and federal procedural rules, particularly in California jurisdictions.

Core Competencies & Skill Set:

  • Exceptional legal writing ability and persuasive oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify legal issues, assess case strengths, and craft creative solutions.
  • Comfortable working independently when necessary, but also thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented legal environment.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail, capable of balancing multiple priorities under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Committed to protecting clients' rights and demonstrating genuine passion for advocacy on behalf of individuals harmed by corporate negligence or misconduct.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience working directly with clients during emotionally challenging legal processes.
  • Technologically proficient, particularly with case management software and legal research platforms.
  • Prior track record of contributing to strategic discussions and adding creative insight to case theories and approaches.

Location Expectations:

  • Candidates must either reside within commuting distance of San Rafael, California, or be able to travel to the firm’s Marin County office within one hour if needed.
  • While remote work is supported, occasional in-office attendance is expected based on case needs and team collaboration.

Benefits & Compensation:

  • Flexible working arrangements, including remote/hybrid options.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits package.
  • Opportunity to earn 15% commission on client matters originated directly by the associate.
  • Participation in a modest profit-sharing plan tied to firm performance.
  • Access to professional development programs, including continuing legal education (CLE) and litigation-focused training.
