Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a dedicated and motivated Civil Rights Associate Attorney. This position offers a unique opportunity to advocate for individuals whose civil rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for advancing civil rights case law.
Location:
Seattle, WA
Duties:
Screen potential civil rights cases and conduct in-depth legal research to assess their merits
Participate in civil rights litigation from inception to resolution, including drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions
Take and defend depositions, and make court appearances when necessary
Collaborate closely with clients from diverse backgrounds, including incarcerated individuals
Work with senior attorneys and other legal team members on case strategy and development
Requirements:
Minimum of 2-5 years of litigation experience, with a preference for civil rights, constitutional law, and trial experience
Strong research and legal writing skills, particularly with complex motions and case law development
Experience in handling depositions, court hearings, and appeals
A passion for civil rights advocacy and a desire to engage in case law development
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team of attorneys
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law
Skills:
Strong legal research and writing skills
Expertise in civil rights or constitutional law
Experience with depositions, court hearings, and appeals
Ability to manage complex legal cases from start to finish
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
