Job Overview:

A reputable law firm is seeking a Commercial Finance Associate with 2-5 years of experience in multifamily housing transactions. This role involves working with investors and developers on complex commercial real estate transactions across the U.S., with a focus on affordable housing and community development. Experience with low-income housing tax credits, historic rehabilitation tax credits, and federal subsidy programs is preferred but not required.

Location:

Duties:

  • Represent clients in multifamily housing transactions, including those involving low-income housing tax credits and historic rehabilitation tax credits
  • Handle complex commercial real estate transactions such as tax-exempt bond financings and HUD-insured financings
  • Advise clients on affordable housing developments and community projects
  • Draft and review legal documents related to real estate financing and development
  • Collaborate with clients on partnership structuring for transactions, including federal subsidy programs (e.g., Section 8, RAD)
  • Provide guidance on Agency financings and partnership tax matters as needed
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills to manage multiple complex transactions concurrently

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in commercial real estate transactions, ideally with a focus on affordable housing or community development
  • Familiarity with low-income housing tax credits, historic rehabilitation tax credits, and federal subsidy programs preferred
  • Experience with tax-exempt bond financings, HUD, and Agency financings is advantageous
  • Strong interest in affordable housing and community development

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in good standing in the relevant jurisdiction(s)

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new areas within commercial finance and real estate
  • Ability to handle complex transactions and meet deadlines effectively
