A law firm seeks an associate attorney to join its environmental law practice in Chicago, IL. This position involves providing strategic legal guidance on complex environmental matters, including regulatory compliance, litigation, and risk management. The role offers the opportunity to collaborate with an experienced team and contribute to impactful legal solutions for clients across diverse industries, such as renewable energy, manufacturing, and higher education.

Duties:

  • Counsel clients on environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance.
  • Manage cases involving the investigation, remediation, and litigation of environmental contamination.
  • Participate in CERCLA and RCRA litigation processes.
  • Guide environmental risk management and transfer agreements.
  • Address legal challenges related to energy and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop creative solutions for client objectives.

Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of focused experience in environmental law.
  • Preferred background in science, engineering, or urban planning.
  • Familiarity with contaminated property litigation, CERCLA/RCRA processes, and environmental risk transfer agreements is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in energy or regulatory law is a plus.
  • Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated with excellent judgment and communication abilities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with eligibility to practice in Illinois preferred.
