A law firm seeks a talented Business Restructuring Associate to join its New York office. The ideal candidate will have 2 to 5 years of experience in representing debtors and creditors in corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, and distressed transactions. This position offers the opportunity to work with partners on complex corporate restructuring matters, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and debt restructuring. The successful candidate will contribute to negotiating, drafting, and representing clients in court proceedings related to business restructuring.

Duties:

  • Support clients with complex corporate restructuring transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and debt restructuring.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to represent clients in negotiations, hearings, and court proceedings related to business restructuring.
  • Conduct in-depth legal analyses to assess business restructuring implications and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Draft essential restructuring documents, including Chapter 11 filings, term sheets, disclosure statements, plans of reorganization, settlements, and asset purchase agreements.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients, creditors, and other stakeholders involved in the restructuring process.
  • Stay informed about legal developments, precedents, and regulations relevant to business restructuring.

Requirements:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in business restructuring law, including corporate transactions and bankruptcy.
  • Strong understanding of bankruptcy laws, creditor rights, and restructuring strategies.
  • Proven experience in drafting legal documents, negotiation, and effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar or eligibility for admission.
  • Experience at a Chambers-ranked bankruptcy department at a large law firm is preferred. Candidates with clerkship experience at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court are also encouraged to apply.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in the state of New York, or eligibility for quick admission.

Skills:

  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep knowledge of bankruptcy laws, creditor rights, and business restructuring strategies.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
