Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking a mid-level Tax Associate to join its Affordable Housing and Tax Credit Team. This position offers a unique opportunity for a lateral associate to contribute to a growing and dynamic team. The role involves working on a range of tax matters related to affordable housing projects, including tax credits and partnership tax law. The position is available in multiple major U.S. markets and offers the chance to work with both for-profit and nonprofit developers.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on tax-related matters related to affordable housing, including federal income tax credits and partnership tax issues.
  • Represent for-profit and nonprofit developers in the development, acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, operation, and sale of affordable multifamily housing.
  • Work with a variety of federal, state, and local affordable housing programs.
  • Draft and review legal documents related to tax credits, real estate transactions, and affordable housing projects.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of attorneys and advisors to provide comprehensive legal support for clients.
  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships through high-quality legal services and communication.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in partnership tax law, ideally with a focus on federal income tax credits.
  • Strong background in accounting.
  • Active membership (in good standing) in any state bar.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting (required).
  • LLM in Taxation (preferred).

Certifications:

  • Active membership in a state bar (in good standing).

Skills:

  • Expertise in partnership tax law and tax credits.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
