Job Overview: A prominent law firm is seeking a Project Finance Associate with 4+ years of experience in energy project development and finance. The ideal candidate will have experience in U.S. project finance with distributed and utility-scale renewable energy projects, along with proficiency in financing documentation and commercial project agreements. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex projects in the renewable energy sector while collaborating with a skilled team of professionals. 

Location:

  • Washington, DC

Duties:

  • Advise clients on energy project development and finance, specifically in renewable energy projects
  • Draft and negotiate principal financing documentation, including purchase agreements, partnership agreements, credit agreements, security and pledge agreements, and depositary agreements
  • Work with key commercial project documentation, including development agreements, PPAs, EPCs, site control, and interconnection agreements
  • Conduct due diligence related to project finance and commercial agreements
  • Collaborate with team members on project development and finance matters, ensuring timely and efficient service delivery
  • Balance multiple competing priorities and handle complex legal issues across various stages of project development

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of project finance experience, particularly in energy and renewable energy sectors
  • Law firm experience required
  • Strong knowledge of financing documentation, including development agreements, PPAs, EPCs, and related due diligence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and responsibilities in a high-pressure environment
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Professionalism in engaging with clients and colleagues in a demanding environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team

Education:

  • JD or LLM from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted or eligible for admission in Massachusetts (MA), New York (NY), California (CA), or Washington, DC

Skills:

  • Project finance experience, especially in renewable energy
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills in financing and commercial agreements
  • Legal research and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Effective communication and client engagement
