Key Responsibilities

  • Patent Application Drafting and Prosecution: Draft and prosecute patent applications in alignment with client goals and patent laws.
  • Prosecution Strategy Development: Collaborate with attorneys to develop effective strategies for patent prosecution and to overcome office actions.
  • Technical and Legal Research: Perform detailed technical research and analysis related to matters pending before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Litigation and Interference Support: Provide technical support for patent litigation and interference proceedings, including research, analysis, and drafting of technical documents.
  • Client Consultation: Work with clients to understand their innovations, advise on patent strategies, and ensure their intellectual property is protected.
  • Document Drafting: Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions, assist with patent portfolio management, and file necessary legal documents.
  • Technology Monitoring: Keep up to date with advancements in relevant technical fields to ensure the highest level of expertise in patentable subject matter.
  • Collaboration: Engage with attorneys, engineers, and clients to provide comprehensive technical support for patent prosecution and related matters.

Requirements

  • Strong technical background in physics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Outstanding writing and analytical skills to clearly convey complex technical concepts in legal documents.
  • Ability to perform thorough technical research and legal analysis in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Interest in intellectual property law and patent prosecution, with a desire to develop specialized knowledge in this area.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively within a law firm setting.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
