A law firm seeks an experienced Commercial and Real Estate Litigation Attorney to join its dynamic litigation team in New York, NY. This hybrid, full-time position offers the opportunity to handle complex commercial real estate and foreclosure litigation matters with a focus on commercial mortgage foreclosures and secured creditor enforcement. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience and will play a key role in case management, legal research, and client communication. Bankruptcy experience is a plus.

Duties:

  • Case Management: Oversee all aspects of real estate-related litigation, particularly involving commercial mortgage foreclosures and secured creditor enforcement.
  • Legal Drafting: Prepare pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and appellate documents.
  • Court and Mediation Representation: Represent clients in state and federal courts, as well as participate in mediations.
  • Diligence: Conduct due diligence for the purchase and sale of notes and mortgages.
  • Client Interaction: Maintain regular communication with clients, ensuring updates on case progress and responding to inquiries.
  • Research: Perform legal research to support litigation strategy and case preparation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior attorneys and other team members to ensure effective case management.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in real estate litigation, with a focus on commercial mortgage foreclosures and creditor enforcement. Bankruptcy experience is beneficial.
  • Skills:
    • Strong legal research and writing capabilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
    • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex cases independently.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to handle multiple matters simultaneously.
    • Effective communication skills for client interactions and court appearances.
  • Licensing: Must be admitted to the New York State Bar; New Jersey Bar admission is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active New York Bar membership (New Jersey Bar a plus).

Skills:

  • Legal Research & Writing: Strong aptitude for drafting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery.
  • Litigation Experience: Proven track record in real estate litigation, particularly in the area of foreclosure and secured creditor enforcement.
  • Client Relations: Exceptional ability to maintain client rapport through clear and effective communication.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Negotiation: Skilled negotiator with experience in settlement discussions and mediations.
