A leading immigration law firm is seeking a dedicated and bilingual Associate Attorney to join its family- and humanitarian-based immigration team. This role will focus on handling cases related to family reunification and humanitarian immigration, such as petitions for loved ones and visa applications for victims of crime. Duties

  • Caseload Management: Manage a caseload of family- and humanitarian-based immigration cases, ensuring timely and quality submission of filings.
  • Client Consultations: Conduct consultations with clients under the supervision of senior attorneys, transitioning to independent consultations after training.
  • Document Preparation: Prepare quality submissions for affirmative filings with USCIS and other related agencies.
  • Client Interviews: Represent clients in interviews before USCIS, initially with supervision and later independently.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a team of attorneys and paralegals to ensure the efficient handling of cases.
  • Case Management: Take ownership of assigned cases, manage deadlines, and ensure smooth communication with clients regarding case strategy and updates.
  • Professional Development: Establish and maintain professional profiles and networks with referral sources, growing in responsibilities over time.

Requirements

  • Fluency in Spanish is required, as the role involves interacting with Spanish-speaking clients.
  • Legal Experience: No prior legal experience required. The firm will consider recent graduates or 3rd-year law students graduating soon.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly.
    • Good judgment and decision-making abilities.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school, or a recent graduate or soon-to-be graduate (third-year law student).

Certifications

  • Active membership or eligibility to sit for the New Mexico Bar exam (if applicable).
