A law firm seeks a dedicated Bankruptcy and Collections Associate to join their Community Association practice group in Tysons, VA. This position is ideal for candidates with 2-4 years of experience in bankruptcy and general collections, looking to support community associations and HOA clients.

Duties:

  • Independently manage a caseload of 250-400 active collection cases from initial intake through to file closure.
  • Collaborate closely with paralegals, administrative staff, and shareholders on the collection workload.
  • Review and interpret client documents, drafting legal opinions for shareholder evaluation.
  • Conduct court appearances in various jurisdictions, including handling abatement court cases to enforce covenants.
  • Maintain regular communication with community association clients and their management agents, providing routine status updates.
  • Manage billing of hourly time and task codes for fixed-fee collections work.
  • Attend on-site meetings at client community associations to oversee elections and Board meetings.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active admission to practice law in Virginia and Maryland.
  • 2-4 years of experience in collections, including familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
  • Experience in district court and post-judgment enforcement.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited institution.

Certifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia and Maryland.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Experience in legal project management is advantageous.
  • Prior experience managing paralegals and other staff is beneficial.
  • Ability to handle multiple clients and tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
