Job Overview: A well-established law firm is seeking a talented Mid-Level Construction Litigation Associate Attorney to join their Chicago office. This role focuses on both construction law counseling and litigation, involving contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and transactional work. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction law and experience litigating various construction disputes, including payment claims, breach of contract, and other construction-related legal matters. The position offers a dynamic work environment within a nationally recognized construction law practice.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on construction law matters, including contract negotiation and drafting.
  • Represent clients in construction-related disputes, including claims for delays, disruptions, and payment disputes.
  • Handle cases involving mechanic's liens, bond claims, stop notices, and breach of contract disputes.
  • Engage in dispute resolution efforts, including mediations and arbitrations.
  • Draft and negotiate construction contracts, change orders, and other agreements.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop legal strategies that protect their interests.
  • Assist in both transactional and litigation aspects of construction law.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in construction law or a related field.
  • Proven ability to litigate a variety of construction-related disputes.
  • Expertise in preparing and negotiating construction contracts and related agreements.
  • Familiarity with mechanics' liens, bond claims, and stop notice claims.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong legal research, analysis, and negotiation skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in Illinois (IL Bar membership required).

Certifications:

  • Active and good-standing license to practice law in Illinois.
  • Additional certifications related to construction law or litigation are advantageous.

Skills:

  • Proficient in both litigation and transactional work within the construction sector.
  • Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to resolve disputes efficiently.
