Associate Attorney with 2+ years of criminal experience

Job Overview: A dedicated criminal defense law firm in Salem, MA, is seeking an Associate Attorney with substantial experience in criminal law. The role involves managing a caseload primarily focused on criminal defense, with occasional family law and civil cases. The ideal candidate will have trial experience and a passion for providing clients with thorough, ethical representation. This position is based in Salem and requires travel throughout Massachusetts for court appearances and client visits.

Location:

• Salem, MA

Duties:

• Handle a caseload of 50-60 cases, primarily criminal defense, with some family law and civil cases
• Represent clients in court appearances, including pre-trial and trial proceedings
• Conduct jail visits and maintain regular client communication
• Perform legal research, draft motions, and prepare court filings
• Develop strategies for client cases, focusing on achieving optimal outcomes
• Build and maintain strong client relationships by setting expectations and addressing concerns

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in criminal law
• At least 5 jury trials completed as lead counsel
• Massachusetts Bar Admission (required)
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel across Massachusetts

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active Massachusetts Bar License

Skills:

• Strong courtroom and trial experience
• Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
• Ability to build and manage client relationships effectively
• Attention to detail and commitment to ethical representation
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required
