Job Overview:
A law firm seeks a mid-level associate attorney to join its energy transition projects team in Houston. Duties:

  • Draft and negotiate a variety of energy transition-related contracts, including offtake, supply, procurement, operating, and construction agreements.
  • Provide legal support for projects in sectors such as carbon capture, hydrogen, renewable fuels, and other energy transition initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to advise clients on regulatory compliance, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Conduct research and analysis on the latest legal trends and regulations impacting the energy transition space.
  • Manage client relationships and contribute to business development efforts within the energy and infrastructure sectors.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers and other technical experts, to ensure the legal aspects of projects are aligned with client objectives.
  • Stay informed about market developments, including policy changes and innovations in energy technology.

Requirements:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in energy, infrastructure, or related contracting fields.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating contracts, particularly in energy, construction, procurement, or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of the energy transition landscape, including sectors such as CCUS (carbon capture, utilization, and storage), hydrogen, and renewable fuels.
  • Stellar academic credentials with major law firm experience preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in the state of practice (or eligibility for admission).

Skills:

  • Expertise in drafting and negotiating energy contracts and infrastructure agreements.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the energy transition industry and related legal frameworks.
