A law firm is searching for an energetic and thoughtful Bankruptcy Attorney to join its Columbus-based team, focusing on guiding clients through financial and legal recovery pathways. The ideal candidate will bring firsthand experience working with insolvency matters and must be licensed to practice law in the state of Ohio. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys the problem-solving nature of legal financial advocacy and wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families facing economic hardship.
Provide hands-on legal support to individuals seeking debt relief and financial reorganization.
Manage cases involving Chapter 7 and/or Chapter 13 proceedings, from client intake through discharge and final resolution.
Represent clients at hearings, trustee meetings, and court appearances, advocating their interests with clarity and conviction.
Prepare and review all necessary filings, including petitions, income schedules, payment plans, and supporting documentation.
Maintain regular communication with clients to explain legal options, timelines, and obligations in plain and reassuring language.
Collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders to streamline processes and keep case files organized and current.
Monitor relevant changes in local and federal debt laws to ensure clients receive accurate and updated guidance.
1 to 6 years of relevant legal experience focused on bankruptcy.
Proven ability to manage a caseload independently and prioritize tasks under pressure.
Strong research and drafting skills with attention to procedural accuracy and detail.
Experience representing clients in court and before trustees or creditors preferred.
Comfortable interacting with clients in sensitive and emotionally charged financial situations.
Proficiency in using bankruptcy filing software and electronic court systems is beneficial.
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a fully accredited law school in the United States.
An active license to practice law in the state of Ohio is mandatory.
Any supplementary coursework or certification in consumer law, financial services, or insolvency is an advantage.
