A law firm in Oak Park, IL is seeking a dedicated and skilled Immigration Attorney to join their dynamic team. The candidate will report to the Sr. Associate Attorney, manage their caseload, interact with clients, and collaborate with the firm's Immigration Team of Attorneys and legal assistants. The role involves providing strategic solutions, representing individuals in various immigration proceedings, and preparing diverse immigration applications.

 

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions to clients.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings at the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a diverse workload of immigration cases.
  • Visit detention centers to conduct intake with detained individuals.
  • Prepare a variety of immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
  • Review and adjust immigration applications/packets as necessary.
  • Present to and work with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on immigration law changes.
  • Conduct strategic consultations with potential clients to determine the necessary immigration strategy.
  • Develop strategies and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony.
  • Provide detailed legal analysis to determine potential case benefits for clients.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for various immigration cases.
  • Maintain a record of moving legal cases forward and effectively managing a caseload.

 

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of experience in Immigration Law.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and team members.
  • Proven ability to move legal cases forward and manage a caseload.
  • Proficiency in Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian cases, EOIR, Legal Writing, Detained, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Experience with Case Management Software is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

 

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar.

 

Certifications:

Certification to practice law in the state of Illinois.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to develop effective legal strategies and solutions.
  • Proficiency in legal research and analysis.
  • Capability to prepare and present cases effectively in court.
