A law firm based in Philadelphia, PA, is seeking a skilled Biotechnology Patent Agent to join their team. This role requires a blend of scientific expertise and patent law proficiency to manage patent prosecution, IP diligence, and strategic IP counseling. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biological sciences, significant experience in patent prosecution, and a proactive approach to IP business strategy.

Duties:

  • Manage and execute patent prosecution activities, including drafting and filing patent applications.
  • Conduct IP diligence and provide strategic counseling on IP business matters.
  • Assist with IP-transfer commercial transactions and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement strategies for patent portfolio management and IP protection.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to address complex IP issues and opportunities.
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze patentability of inventions.
  • Prepare and review patent-related documents, including responses to office actions and appeals.
  • Provide technical and legal guidance to clients on patent-related matters.
  • Stay current with developments in biotechnology and patent law to provide informed counsel.

Requirements:

  • A graduate degree in a biological science is required; a PhD is preferred.
  • Preference for a degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or genetics.
  • 5+ years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Admission to the patent Bar is required.
  • Strong academic credentials and excellent references are preferred.
  • A strong entrepreneurial spirit is preferred.

Education:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a biological science such as molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or genetics.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the patent Bar.

Skills:

  • Expertise in biotechnology and related scientific fields.
  • Proven experience in patent prosecution and IP diligence.
  • Strong understanding of IP laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
