A law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Attorney to join its Environment, Land Use, and Natural Resources practice in Minneapolis, MN. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of environmental law, particularly in matters involving state and federal cleanup of contaminated sites and compliance with environmental regulations. The attorney will support clients in various environmental law-related needs, including compliance, cleanup work, government investigations, enforcement actions, and toxic tort defense. Additionally, the role involves advising on environmental aspects of real estate and corporate transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal counsel on state and federal cleanup matters, including Superfund and other hazardous site remediation projects.
  • Assist clients with compliance issues related to environmental laws, such as chemical reporting, stormwater management, and waste characterization and disposal.
  • Respond to government information requests, conduct investigations, and represent clients in enforcement actions.
  • Defend clients in citizen suits and toxic tort litigation.
  • Advise clients on environmental risks in real estate and corporate transactions, including negotiating and drafting environmental provisions in transaction documents.
  • Review and assess environmental site assessments and other due diligence materials.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify and manage environmental risks in various business contexts.
  • Stay current with developments in environmental law and regulations to ensure clients are fully informed and compliant.
  • Communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to clients and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships by providing exceptional legal service and strategic advice.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in environmental law, particularly in state and federal cleanup, compliance, and litigation.
  • Strong background in environmental law compliance, including experience with chemical reporting, stormwater management, and waste disposal.
  • Proven ability to handle government investigations, enforcement actions, and citizen suits.
  • Experience in advising on environmental aspects of real estate and corporate transactions.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex legal issues to a diverse audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Membership in good standing with the Bar in one or more of the following states: AK, CA, DC, ID, MN, OR, UT, or WA (required).
