Job Overview: A New York-based law firm serving the metropolitan area is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with at least two years of experience to handle landlord-tenant matters. The ideal candidate will be admitted to the New York Bar and possess strong litigation skills for appearances in Housing Court across multiple boroughs and counties. This role offers hands-on courtroom exposure, along with opportunities for involvement in closings and collection matters.
Location:
Roslyn Heights, NY
Duties:
Represent landlords in non-payment of rent and holdover proceedings
Appear in Housing Court across various New York City boroughs and surrounding counties
Handle HPD (Housing Preservation and Development) proceedings
Draft motions, oppositions, and legal memoranda
Conduct legal research using Lexis and Westlaw
Participate in real estate closings
Support collection actions and enforcement proceedings
Maintain timely communication with clients and court personnel
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of legal experience, preferably in landlord-tenant or housing litigation
Admitted and in good standing with the New York State Bar
Courtroom experience with Housing Court procedures
Ability to manage multiple cases across different jurisdictions
Familiarity with NYC rent laws, regulations, and court practices
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law in the State of New York (required)
Skills:
Strong oral advocacy and litigation presence
Legal research proficiency (LexisNexis and Westlaw)
Drafting and legal writing skills
Attention to detail and case management
Ability to work independently and manage court calendars
Client service orientation with strong interpersonal skills
