Job Overview: A prestigious law firm is seeking a highly skilled Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney with 5-7 years of experience to join its team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in either privacy litigation or transactional work related to privacy, data security, and vendor agreements. Expertise in federal and state privacy laws, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and biometric health laws, is essential. The firm offers a hybrid schedule with in-office expectations on a weekly basis.

Location:

  • Ann Arbour, MI

Duties:

  • Manage privacy-related litigation, with a focus on class action and data privacy cases
  • Provide legal counsel on vendor and business customer service agreements, including negotiation and drafting
  • Advise clients on compliance with state and federal privacy laws, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and biometric data laws
  • Assist in breach response and risk management for data privacy issues
  • Work closely with other attorneys on privacy and cybersecurity matters
  • Build relationships with clients and manage client projects
  • Contribute to business development and new client relationships
  • Participate in firm-wide initiatives and knowledge sharing

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, or related legal practice
  • Significant experience in privacy-related litigation or transactional matters
  • Strong understanding of state and federal privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA)
  • Experience with breach response, compliance counseling, or risk management related to privacy
  • Admission to the State Bar
  • Preferred candidates should be familiar with privacy laws related to biometric data
  • CIPP/US certification is a plus, but not required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple client projects and meet deadlines

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar
  • CIPP/US certification (preferred, but not required)

Skills:

  • Expertise in privacy and cybersecurity law
  • Strong litigation and/or transactional drafting skills
  • Proficiency in data privacy laws (CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, biometric laws)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client management skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
