A law firm seeks an experienced Business Restructuring Associate to join its Chicago office. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex corporate restructuring cases, including bankruptcy proceedings and distressed situations. The ideal candidate will bring 2-5 years of experience representing both debtors and creditors in business restructuring matters.

Duties:

  • Provide legal support across various aspects of corporate restructuring, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and debt restructuring.
  • Collaborate with partners to represent clients in negotiations, hearings, and court proceedings related to business restructuring.
  • Conduct thorough legal analyses to assess the implications of restructuring transactions, ensuring all activities comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Draft key restructuring documents, including Chapter 11 filings, term sheets, disclosure statements, reorganization plans, settlements, and asset purchase agreements.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, creditors, and other stakeholders involved in the restructuring process.
  • Keep abreast of legal developments, precedents, and regulatory changes that affect business restructuring.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in business restructuring law, particularly in corporate transactions and bankruptcy.
  • Strong understanding of bankruptcy laws, creditor rights, and restructuring strategies.
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex legal documents.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with clients and other parties involved in restructuring cases.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in Illinois, or eligibility for prompt admission.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice in Illinois (or eligibility for admission).

  • Expertise in business restructuring law, particularly bankruptcy-related matters.
  • Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and legal analysis skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
