Job Overview
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced attorney to join its Energy, Environmental, Mining, and Transportation Division in Kansas City. This position requires at least five years of experience in regulatory counseling or litigation with a focus on energy or environmental law. The ideal candidate will have experience working with federal agencies and handling core environmental statutes. The role offers opportunities to manage complex legal matters, work with clients in various industries, and collaborate with a team of attorneys.

Duties

  • Draft pleadings, motions, and briefs related to environmental and energy law matters.
  • Advise clients on compliance with major federal statutes such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and CERCLA.
  • Assist clients with regulatory issues, rulemaking, permitting, and enforcement processes.
  • Participate in rulemaking processes and challenge existing regulations.
  • Lead teams of attorneys on litigated or regulatory matters.
  • Conduct factual investigations and manage e-discovery.
  • Identify and resolve complex legal issues using creative, strategic, and analytical thinking.
  • Build relationships with clients in the manufacturing, transportation, and mining sectors.
  • Monitor trends in industries to identify new business opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience in regulatory counseling or litigation in environmental or energy law.
  • Familiarity with federal environmental statutes and regulatory schemes.
  • Experience working with federal agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency or the U.S. Department of Justice is a plus.
  • Active license in the applicable jurisdiction or ability to waive in.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active bar license in the applicable jurisdiction or ability to waive in.

Skills

  • Strong writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in managing e-discovery and conducting factual investigations.
  • Experience managing teams and complex legal matters.
  • Ability to apply creative, strategic, and analytical thinking to legal issues.
  • Knowledge of environmental and energy regulatory frameworks and the ability to guide clients in compliance matters.
