A law firm in Houston, TX is seeking a dedicated Immigration Attorney to join their team. The successful candidate will report to the Sr. Associate Attorney and will manage their own caseload while interacting closely with clients and collaborating with a team of immigration attorneys and legal assistants. The role involves representing clients in various immigration proceedings, preparing applications, and providing strategic legal advice.

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions to clients.
  • Represent both non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Efficiently manage a diverse workload of immigration cases.
  • Visit detention centers to conduct intake interviews with detained individuals.
  • Prepare and file various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Review and revise immigration applications and packets to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations regarding changes in immigration law.
  • Conduct strategic consultations with potential clients to develop case strategies and determine necessary actions.
  • Develop legal strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court or USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to identify potential benefits and devise case strategies.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a variety of immigration cases.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • 1-4 years of immigration law experience.
  • Active Bar admission in Texas (or law graduates awaiting admission will be considered).
  • Preferably bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience with family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR proceedings, detained cases, citizenship applications, and other USCIS processes.
  • Experience with case management software is preferred.

  • Proficiency in preparing and reviewing immigration applications and legal briefs.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective legal strategies.

  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
