A law firm is seeking an Information Governance Attorney for their San Francisco, CA, location.

Job Overview: The Information Governance Attorney will advise on a variety of information governance issues to ensure the firm’s compliance with legal, ethical, security, and privacy requirements. They will oversee information management, including preservation, collection, processing, review, and production of documents and electronically stored information. Additionally, they will develop procedures and technologies for a streamlined electronic discovery program and guide security and privacy matters.

Duties:

  • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of internal legal holds and document preservation systems.
  • Collaborate with client-facing attorneys to respond to discovery requests, prepare custodians of records, and attend discovery conferences.
  • Guide pre-litigation data management and litigation, including coordinating information collection for responses to discovery requests and file release requests.
  • Advise on security and privacy issues, including evaluating new applications and services.
  • Develop internal policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices related to information governance, security, and privacy.

Requirements:

  • A university degree in law with additional coursework in a technology-related field is preferred.
  • A JD or LLM degree from an ABA-accredited law school is preferred.
  • License to practice law in CA.
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience, preferably in electronic discovery, due diligence, or records management.
  • Admission to at least one US State Bar.
  • Experience working in a US-based law firm is preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent leadership skills, including organization, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Knowledge of electronically stored information (ESI) management and review tools and applications.
  • Familiarity with security, breach notification, and global privacy laws, especially the European Union privacy framework.
