A law firm in Mount Laurel, NJ, is seeking an experienced Litigation Associate Attorney to join its Litigation Department. Reporting directly to the firm's New Jersey Office Managing Partner, the successful candidate will support several members of the litigation team and work on general commercial litigation matters, including insurance defense and business litigation. The role requires a deep understanding of the litigation process and a demonstrated ability to manage all phases of litigation. This position is ideal for an attorney with strong research, communication, and client management skills, looking to develop further in a dynamic legal environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handle general commercial litigation matters, including insurance defense and business litigation cases.
  • Manage all phases of litigation, from initial pleadings through trial and post-trial motions.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to support case strategy.
  • Prepare and file pleadings, motions, and other court documents.
  • Manage discovery processes, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, and objecting to improper requests.
  • Take and defend depositions, interview witnesses, and prepare expert reports.
  • Engage in settlement negotiations and mediation efforts, representing the firm’s clients effectively.
  • Argue motions in court and participate in trials as needed.
  • Work closely with other members of the firm’s litigation team, collaborating on case strategy and trial preparation.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates, legal advice, and case progress.
  • Utilize electronic discovery tools and client management software to efficiently manage caseload.
  • Participate in firm initiatives, including business development and client training opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Must be admitted to the New Jersey Bar; admission to the Pennsylvania Bar is strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in general commercial litigation, including experience in insurance defense and business litigation.
  • Proven experience in all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motions, and trials.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to provide strategic case recommendations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in legal research, including the use of Westlaw or LexisNexis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience using legal client management software.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Member in good standing with the New Jersey State Bar.
  • Admission to the Pennsylvania Bar is strongly preferred but not required.

Skills:

  • Strong litigation skills, including the ability to draft pleadings, conduct depositions, and argue motions in court.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities, capable of managing multiple cases simultaneously.
