A law firm is seeking an experienced attorney to join the Energy, Environmental, Mining, and Transportation Division in Washington, D.C. This position offers the opportunity to work on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) matters, including regulatory counseling and litigation under the Federal Power Act and Natural Gas Act. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience with FERC-related issues, strong writing and analytical skills, and the ability to navigate complex legal and procedural challenges. Previous experience working at FERC is preferred but not required.

Duties

  • Draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and briefs related to FERC matters.
  • Collaborate with teams of attorneys on regulatory or litigated matters.
  • Handle complex legal, factual, and procedural issues.
  • Manage e-discovery processes and conduct factual investigations.
  • Apply creative, strategic, and analytical thinking to identify and resolve legal challenges.
  • Represent clients in regulatory and litigation proceedings related to FERC.

Requirements

  • Active license to practice law in the District of Columbia or the ability to waive in.
  • At least three years of experience in regulatory counseling or litigation on FERC-related matters.
  • Experience with the Federal Power Act and Natural Gas Act is preferred.
  • Previous FERC experience is an advantage but not required.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the District of Columbia Bar (or eligibility to waive in).

Skills

  • Strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience working with e-discovery and managing complex legal matters.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
