Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an experienced Environmental Law Partner to join its recognized Environmental group. This role involves providing expert legal counsel on environmental matters tied to corporate transactions, real estate development, and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of environmental law, particularly in advising on complex transactions and regulatory matters, with the opportunity to further develop within a collaborative and forward-thinking legal environment.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on environmental aspects of mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and real estate developments.
  • Draft and negotiate environmental contractual provisions, including representations, warranties, indemnities, and covenants.
  • Offer strategic guidance on environmental compliance, permitting, and regulatory matters.
  • Conduct thorough environmental due diligence in transactions.
  • Counsel clients on pre- and post-closing environmental compliance.
  • Collaborate with legal teams, environmental consultants, and governmental agencies.
  • Effectively manage client relationships and deliver high-quality legal counsel.
  • Participate in the development of the firm's environmental law practice, including business networking and client outreach.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience practicing environmental law, with expertise in corporate transactions and real estate.
  • Strong background in handling environmental legal matters across industries such as manufacturing, real estate, and renewable energy.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex environmental legal challenges.
  • High-level organizational, analytical, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and enthusiasm for environmental law.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan, Illinois, or Washington, DC, or eligible for waiver into one of these jurisdictions.

Skills:

  • Expertise in drafting and negotiating legal documents related to environmental law.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for client interaction and teamwork.
  • Proficiency in regulatory compliance and environmental permitting processes.
  • Ability to manage client expectations and provide strategic advice.
  • Ability to travel as required by client needs.
