Job Overview

A reputable law firm is currently seeking a skilled Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group within the Chemical, Pharma, and Biotech sectors. The ideal candidate will be involved in both patent prosecution and litigation, handling complex cases related to cutting-edge technologies.

Location

  • Greenville, SC

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Biotech fields
  • Provide litigation support, including research and analysis related to patent infringement issues
  • Assist with client consultations on intellectual property strategy and portfolio management
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions, appeals, and other prosecution-related documents
  • Conduct prior art searches and prepare technical memoranda
  • Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and technical experts to develop intellectual property strategies
  • Ensure compliance with patent laws and regulations

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in patent prosecution and/or litigation
  • Strong background in intellectual property, specifically in drafting and prosecuting patents
  • Chemical Engineering or Chemistry degree (advanced degrees or prior work experience preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) are preferred, but not required

Certifications

  • Registered Patent Agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills

  • Expertise in patent law and prosecution processes
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Experience with patent databases and prior art search tools
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
