A law firm seeks an experienced Tax Associate to join its tax practice group. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience, focusing on federal, international, and state and local tax matters. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of tax issues, including domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, investment fund formation, real estate transactions, and tax controversy. The Tax Associate will engage in both advisory and litigation-related tax matters and collaborate with a team of professionals across multiple offices.

Duties

  • Guide U.S. federal, international, and state/local tax planning for corporate clients.
  • Advise on tax considerations in the context of mergers, acquisitions, and investment fund formation.
  • Support real estate transactions, including preparing tax-related documents, filings, and offering transactional support.
  • Handle tax dispute matters, such as IRS audits, voluntary disclosures, tax litigation, appeals, and collections.
  • Work closely with a team of attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff across various offices to meet client needs.
  • Conduct research and draft clear, concise written reports on complex tax matters.
  • Represent clients in interactions with tax authorities including the IRS, state tax agencies, and the Tax Court.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in tax law, particularly in federal, international, and state/local tax planning.
  • Strong background in handling corporate tax issues and tax disputes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across various jurisdictions.
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • An active member in good standing with the Bar in Florida.

Skills

  • Exceptional research and writing skills, with the ability to simplify complex tax concepts.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with tax preparation and litigation processes related to the IRS and state tax authorities.
