A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney with expertise in municipal law to support a range of legal matters relevant to Texas municipalities. This role involves providing comprehensive legal advice, supporting local governance processes, and facilitating compliance with regulatory and statutory obligations. Duties:

  • Analyze legal issues affecting municipalities and deliver clear, actionable legal guidance to clients.
  • Advise on matters related to land use, zoning, and development regulations.
  • Draft municipal ordinances and resolutions that align with legal standards and serve community objectives.
  • Negotiate and draft contracts on behalf of municipal clients, ensuring legal soundness and risk mitigation.
  • Provide counsel on compliance with public purchasing laws and procedures.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with open meetings and public records laws, responding to public records requests as required.
  • Facilitate the City Council agenda process, coordinating legal and procedural support as needed.
  • Represent clients in municipal court, handling prosecution-related activities.
  • Advise on eminent domain matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and protecting municipal interests.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in municipal law, with a demonstrated understanding of issues commonly faced by Texas municipalities.
  • Proven dedication to serving the public and advancing the interests of local communities.
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload and handle various legal issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills specific to municipal law.

Education:

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the Texas Bar.

Skills:

  • Broad knowledge of Texas municipal law, including zoning, development, and land use regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting legal documents and advising clients.
  • Proficiency in drafting ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents tailored to municipal governance.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of organizational skills to manage multiple cases and responsibilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with city officials, council members, and other stakeholders in the municipal process.
