Position Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:

A respected law firm based in Boise, ID is seeking a skilled and motivated Patent Agent with at least two years of experience to join its growing team. Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in various areas of technology

  • Conduct patentability assessments and provide strategic input on IP portfolios

  • Work directly with inventors and technical teams to understand innovations

  • Communicate with the USPTO regarding office actions and responses

  • Support post-grant proceedings and contribute to opinion work when necessary

  • Collaborate with attorneys, patent agents, and support staff on a diverse range of matters

  • Stay current on trends in technology and intellectual property law

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  • Familiarity with technologies such as wireless systems, AI, semiconductor devices, software, or cloud-based platforms

  • Ability to handle complex technical subject matter with minimal supervision

  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills

  • Interest in ongoing professional development and client-facing opportunities

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration (mandatory)

Skills:

  • Strong technical writing and editing skills

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities

  • Team-oriented, yet capable of independent judgment

  • Proficient in managing multiple projects and deadlines concurrently

  • Familiarity with patent-related AI tools and databases is a plus
