Job Overview

A reputable law firm based in San Diego, CA is looking for a Supervising Veterans’ Benefits Attorney with a deep understanding of veterans' benefits law. This role requires an experienced attorney with a proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a legal team. The primary focus of this position is to guide legal strategies, oversee case management, and advocate for veterans in complex legal matters.

Duties

  • Oversee client case files to ensure smooth progression and effective case management.
  • Lead and provide mentorship to a team of case managers and legal staff.
  • Develop legal strategies for veterans’ benefits cases, including analyzing legal issues and reviewing evidence.
  • Conduct Higher Level Review Informal Conferences and Board of Veterans' Appeals (BVA) Hearings.
  • Draft BVA briefs, memorandums, and motions.
  • Manage all proceedings at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC).
  • Make strategic decisions, including whether to appeal cases to the BVA or CAVC and whether to request medical or vocational opinions.
  • Address complex legal issues, providing recommendations to clients and higher-level management based on risk analysis and expected outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in veterans' benefits law, with representation at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one state.
  • Strong analytical, research, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Experience in team leadership and management, particularly with legal case managers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to assisting veterans and their families.
  • Technologically proficient, with the ability to manage legal technology and tools.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active Bar License in at least one state (Required).
