Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a highly skilled Senior Counsel/Of Counsel attorney with significant experience in mall and shopping center leasing to join its real estate team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail, mall, and shopping center leasing, with expertise in negotiating leases, modifications, and renewals.

Location:

Duties:

  • Draft and negotiate new leases and modification agreements for shopping centers and malls.
  • Advise clients on tenant-related issues, including prohibited and exclusive use provisions.
  • Handle tenant approvals, SNDAs (Subordination, Non-Disturbance, and Attornment agreements), and estoppel certificates.
  • Represent property owners in shopping center lease negotiations, renewals, and modifications.
  • Occasionally represent tenants in leasing matters.
  • Manage and oversee complex lease-related issues for clients.
  • Provide expert counsel on tenant improvement construction contracts, if applicable.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in retail, mall, and shopping center leasing.
  • Strong background in drafting, negotiating, and managing lease agreements.
  • Experience with tenant-related issues, including prohibited use clauses and exclusivity provisions.
  • Prior experience as in-house counsel or working with property owners is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse workload and work independently.
  • Strong business development mindset and ability to generate new work.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership (No specific state bar admission required for this role).

Skills:

  • Expertise in retail and commercial real estate law, specifically shopping center and mall leasing.
  • Exceptional negotiation and drafting skills related to leases and modifications.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to generate new clients and opportunities.
