A law firm in Chicago, IL is seeking an experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join their team. The attorney will report to the Managing Criminal Defense Attorney, manage a diverse caseload, provide legal counsel to clients, and collaborate with a dedicated team of legal professionals to deliver effective defense strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of criminal defense matters, including client interactions and case management.
  • Advise clients on their legal rights, responsibilities, and potential outcomes of their cases.
  • Draft legal documents such as motions, pleadings, and briefs to support client defense strategies.
  • Attend pretrial hearings, trials, and other court appearances on behalf of clients.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to prepare effective defense strategies.
  • Interview witnesses, gather evidence, and prepare clients for depositions.
  • Analyze probable case outcomes based on knowledge of legal precedents and case facts.
  • Manage workload efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Provide comprehensive legal analysis to clients to determine potential case benefits and risks.
  • Accrue additional evidence and arguments to support clients' defense against prosecution charges.
  • Utilize bilingual proficiency in Spanish (preferred) to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking clients and witnesses.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills in client interactions and team collaboration.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Bar membership in Illinois; multi-state admissions advantageous.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience practicing criminal defense law, handling complex cases at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Proven track record of successful case management and courtroom experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with case management software preferred.
