Job Title: Criminal Defense Attorney

Job Overview:

An established law firm in Phoenix, AZ, seeks an experienced and driven criminal defense attorney to join its growing team. The firm focuses on defending individuals against criminal charges, ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in criminal law and a passion for defending clients' rights. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a supportive, dynamic environment while handling a variety of criminal cases across Arizona’s courts.

Duties:

  • Represent clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges, from initial consultations to case resolution.
  • Conduct client interviews and explain case facts and legal strategies in clear, concise terms.
  • Handle routine court appearances across the Phoenix area and the greater Arizona region.
  • Negotiate with prosecutors to secure favorable plea agreements for clients.
  • Travel to jails to meet with in-custody defendants when necessary.
  • Conduct interviews with police officers and witnesses to gather case details.
  • Develop and execute effective legal strategies, with autonomy and support from senior attorneys.
  • Draft and argue motions, including substantive pre-trial and trial motions.
  • Serve as 1st or 2nd chair in misdemeanor and felony jury trials.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in Arizona criminal law, either as a defense attorney, prosecutor, or judicial clerk.
  • Licensed to practice law in Arizona (Arizona State Bar).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the Phoenix area and beyond.
  • Strong understanding of the Arizona Rules of Criminal Procedure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Arizona State Bar License (required).

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Experience in trial preparation and litigation.
  • Negotiation and settlement skills.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload efficiently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a courtroom setting.
