Patent Agent

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent for their Pittsburgh, PA location.

Job Overview:

The Patent Agent will redraft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO, analyze technical documents, and manage prosecution dockets. They must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Duties:

• Drafting patent applications and prosecuting them before the USPTO.
• Analyzing scientific or technical documents to assess inventions or issued patents.
• Drafting detailed descriptions of inventions in precise legal terms.
• Preparing information disclosure statements, declarations, and other patent prosecution materials.
• Managing a U.S. and foreign patent prosecution docket to meet deadlines.
• Conducting interviews with USPTO examiners.
• Keeping up to date with legal developments in intellectual property.

Requirements:

• Bachelors and advanced degrees (M.S, Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering or Physics.
• 3 years of work experience, preferably in patent prosecution at a law firm.
• Admitted to practice before the USPTO.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Highly organized and responsive, able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong academic credentials and excellent communication skills.
