A law firm in Houston, TX is seeking a Patent Attorney with 2-4 years of experience to join their team. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field. This role involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications, supporting due diligence, and managing a varied caseload in a fast-paced environment.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Conduct patent searches and provide due diligence support.
  • Prepare responses to office actions and other official communications from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Advise clients on patentability, prosecution strategies, and potential infringement issues.
  • Collaborate with inventors, technical experts, and clients to gather information and ensure accurate patent filings.
  • Review and analyze patent portfolios for strategic planning and risk management.
  • Maintain organized records of patent applications, communications, and deadlines.
  • Manage multiple patent prosecution matters and meet internal and client-driven deadlines.
  • Support intellectual property litigation and enforcement activities as needed.
  • Stay updated with developments in patent law and relevant technical fields.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a Master's Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar eligible).
  • If applicable, licensed to practice law in the respective state.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments from various partners and clients.
  • Excellent attention to detail, writing skills, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • If applicable, state bar admission.
