Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking an experienced associate attorney to join its Labor & Employment practice. This role involves handling a diverse range of labor and employment issues, including union-related matters, collective bargaining, discrimination laws, wage and hour laws, and more. 

Location:

  • Ithaca, NY

Duties:

  • Conduct legal research on a variety of labor and employment law matters.
  • Draft employee handbooks, policies, and other related documents.
  • Prepare position statements and responses to administrative charges (EEOC, NY State Division of Human Rights, CT Commission on Human Rights).
  • Communicate with clients to gather necessary information for position statements.
  • Draft motions for federal and state court.
  • Respond to discovery requests and prepare relevant legal documents.
  • Prepare deposition outlines, exhibits, and witnesses, and serve as first or second chair in depositions.
  • Assist senior attorneys in preparing for mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, and trials.
  • Serve as second chair, and when appropriate, first chair in mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, and trials.
  • Maintain an annual billable hours target of 1,800 hours.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in labor and employment law or litigation.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar (preferred, or ability to waive in).
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing with the state bar.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to quickly absorb, process, and understand new information.
  • High standards of performance, with strong dedication and responsibility.
  • Professional, cooperative, and flexible attitude.
  • Ability to work well with diverse personalities at various levels of the organization.
  • Military experience is welcomed.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar (preferred).
