Senior Attorney or Partner Data Privacy and Cybersecurity

Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Attorney or Partner to lead its Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Information Management practice in Albany, NY. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data protection law, substantial portable business, and a proven ability to build and maintain client relationships. This role involves advising on cutting-edge privacy issues, managing complex legal matters, and collaborating across practice groups to deliver exceptional client service.

Duties

• Contract Management: Negotiate and draft contracts related to privacy, cybersecurity, data licensing, technology outsourcing, and intellectual property matters, including business associate agreements (BAAs).
• Policy Development: Create and implement policies and procedures for privacy, cybersecurity, computer use, and social media.
• Risk Assessment: Conduct risk evaluations and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs).
• Incident Response: Oversee security incident and data breach investigations and response strategies.
• Insurance Analysis: Analyze cyber insurance coverage and manage claim disputes.
• Litigation: Handle cases involving unauthorized computer access, data theft, and related issues.
• M&A Support: Provide privacy and cybersecurity due diligence in mergers and acquisitions.
• Regulatory Compliance: Respond to individual data subject access requests and legal demands for protected information, including subpoenas and search warrants.
• International Data Transfers: Advise on compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other cross-border data transfer rules.
• Strategic Growth: Generate and maintain business in the field of data privacy and cybersecurity.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Business Development: Established portable book of business with demonstrated ability to attract and retain clients.
• Skills:

  • Strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to collaborate across practice groups.
• Bar Admission: Active license to practice law in New York.

Education

• Degree: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active admission to the New York State Bar.
