Job Overview
A respected immigration law firm in Chicago, Illinois is seeking an Immigration Attorney focused on EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review) proceedings. This role offers a dynamic opportunity for an attorney with 1–5 years of experience to manage a broad caseload, work closely with clients in detention and non-detention settings, and appear before Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Duties

  • Represent clients—both detained and non-detained—in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals

  • Conduct legal consultations and explain immigration processes and strategic options

  • Prepare and file diverse immigration applications including asylum, cancellation of removal, and family-based petitions

  • Review and revise application packets for accuracy and completeness

  • Conduct intake visits at detention centers as needed

  • Draft and submit legal briefs and other filings in support of clients’ immigration cases

  • Develop legal strategy and prepare clients and witnesses for court hearings and USCIS interviews

  • Stay informed on immigration law updates and policy shifts

  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial agencies, and community-based organizations regarding immigration matters

  • Work with legal assistants and fellow attorneys to manage case timelines and deadlines

Requirements

  • 1–5 years of experience in immigration law, specifically EOIR proceedings

  • Proven ability to manage a caseload independently

  • Strong record of moving cases forward with efficiency and integrity

  • Team-oriented and collaborative in legal strategy development

  • Experience handling family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, detained matters, and USCIS applications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)

  • Experience with legal case management software (preferred)

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the United States
