A law firm in Fort Myers is seeking a Criminal Defense Attorney with a strong commitment to client advocacy. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, along with great organizational abilities. Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred, and felony experience is a must. The candidate should have 2+ years of experience, preferably at the State Attorney or The Public Defender’s Office.

 

Duties:

  • Meet with potential clients to assess their cases and provide legal advice.
  • Interview witnesses and gather evidence to support clients' defense.
  • Perform thorough legal research on relevant statutes, case law, and legal precedents.
  • Visit clients in custody to discuss case strategies and provide updates.
  • Attend court hearings, trials, and proceedings to represent clients' interests.
  • File motions and other legal documents on behalf of clients.
  • Examine crime scenes and gather additional evidence to strengthen the defense's argument.
  • Identify and gather expert witnesses to testify in court.
  • Manage multiple cases simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Regularly update clients about the progress of their cases and respond to their urgent needs.
  • Willingness to learn and practice family law.
  • Attend community service events to represent the firm and engage with the community.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with paralegal and other office staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior attorneys.

 

Requirements:

  • Florida Bar licensed.
  • 2+ years of experience, preferably at the State Attorney or The Public Defender’s Office.
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Felony experience is a must.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Great organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Graduated from a top 100 Law School desired.
  • Criminal Trial Board Certified desired.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Florida Bar license.
  • Criminal Trial Board Certification (desired).
