Job Overview:
A law firm seeks a skilled attorney with experience in construction law, particularly handling disputes between homeowners and contractors. This role involves advising homeowners throughout the process of their custom home builds and renovation projects, providing pre-litigation and litigation services when necessary. The ideal candidate will have a client-service-driven approach, able to resolve disputes creatively and effectively. The firm is experiencing rapid growth and is looking for an associate to manage these legal services while working collaboratively with a team.

Duties:

  • Communicate empathetically with clients, offering practical legal advice related to construction issues.
  • Analyze client issues related to construction disputes, providing clear guidance and the best course of action.
  • Lead the firm’s litigation efforts through discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial preparation.
  • Help homeowners navigate common issues during renovation projects such as payment disputes, timelines, and quality of work.
  • Assist contractors with contract, lien, and payment issues.
  • Manage pre-trial litigation stages effectively, ensuring swift and efficient resolution of issues.
  • Supervise and direct legal assistants and contract attorneys when necessary.
  • Negotiate and resolve disputes between contractors and homeowners.

Requirements:

  • Florida Bar license (required).
  • 2 to 8 years of experience in construction law, especially in owner-contractor disputes and mid-project issues (not limited to defects).
  • Experience with construction liens and the legal intricacies between homeowners, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of pre-trial litigation.
  • Comfort with performance metrics and a focus on results rather than just billable hours.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to have difficult conversations with clients.
  • High-quality writing skills, with the ability to craft persuasive letters and motions.
  • A growth mindset and strong desire for personal fulfillment and professional development.
  • Technologically savvy with an ability to adapt to new tools and systems.
  • Strong attention to detail while managing a growing caseload.
  • A team player who is driven by purpose and values collaboration.
  • Experience in the construction industry outside of law is a plus.
  • Ability to generate business within the firm’s niche will be rewarded.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Florida Bar (required).
