Job Title: Patent Agent (Medical Devices)

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a talented and experienced Patent Agent to join its intellectual property team, with a focus on medical devices. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting prior art searches, and responding to office actions. The firm is looking for someone who has worked within the medical devices and bioengineering fields, with knowledge of mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and computer science being highly desirable. The candidate should be a licensed professional before the USPTO, with a background in engineering or a related field.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to medical devices, bioengineering, and related technologies
  • Respond to office actions issued by the USPTO
  • Conduct comprehensive prior art searches to support patentability assessments
  • Assist with the preparation of legal opinions and strategies in the intellectual property space
  • Collaborate with the IP team to manage and safeguard patent portfolios for clients

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Patent Agent
  • Proven experience in patent application drafting and prosecution, especially in the field of medical devices
  • Expertise in conducting prior art searches and legal analysis
  • Admitted to practice before the USPTO

Education:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in bioengineering, engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related field

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills:

  • Strong legal writing and communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of patent law, particularly in the areas of medical devices and bioengineering
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while handling complex and time-sensitive matters
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in managing multiple tasks and priorities
