Job Overview: A prominent law firm is seeking an associate attorney to join its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team with a focus on asbestos litigation. The role involves representing asbestos defendants in state and federal courts nationwide, collaborating with colleagues across multiple offices. The firm is looking for a driven and experienced attorney with a background in toxic tort matters, specifically asbestos defense. This is a hybrid remote opportunity with multiple office locations.

Location:

  • Hartford, CT

Duties:

  • Take and defend depositions on a regular basis.
  • Research various issues and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop proactive defense strategies.
  • Navigate claims through resolution by dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial.
  • Draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Represent clients at courtroom appearances.
  • Maintain a minimum of 1900 billable hours annually.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters, with preference for experience in asbestos defense.
  • Admission to New York required.
  • Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey preferred (or ability to waive into New Jersey).
  • Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms for depositions, court conferences, and meetings.
  • Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel when necessary.
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills for prioritizing and managing workload.
  • Ability to absorb, process, and understand new information rapidly.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities.
  • High standards of performance, conscientiousness, dedication, and responsibility.
  • Professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude.
  • Military experience is welcome.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York Bar required.
  • Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into New Jersey).

  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using video conferencing platforms like Zoom and MS Teams.
