Job Title: Local Government Law Attorney

Job Overview:
A law firm in Williamsburg, VA, is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable attorney with experience in local government law to join its Government Group. This role involves providing legal counsel and representation to municipalities, including towns, counties, and cities across the region. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience or in-house experience with localities and/or social services departments.

Duties:

  • Advise local government entities on a range of legal matters.
  • Represent clients in Juvenile & Domestic Relations, General District, and Circuit Courts.
  • Attend and provide legal guidance at local government meetings.
  • Conduct legal research and draft opinions, ordinances, and resolutions.
  • Manage multiple cases and deadlines while supporting senior attorneys.
  • Interpret and apply local, state, and federal laws affecting government operations.

Requirements:

  • Active Virginia Bar license.
  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation or local government legal experience.
  • Strong client service and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Willingness to travel within Virginia for court appearances and meetings.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Virginia.
