Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a skilled and motivated Associate Attorney or Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. The ideal candidate will focus on electrical engineering and software or mechanical patents. This position offers the opportunity to handle both prosecution and litigation matters in the intellectual property space.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in various technical fields, including electrical engineering, software, and mechanical engineering.
• Represent clients in patent litigation and related matters.
• Provide legal counsel on patent strategy, including prior art searches and patentability assessments.
• Prepare and file patent applications with the USPTO.
• Collaborate with clients and inventors to understand their technologies and provide effective solutions.
• Participate in strategic discussions about intellectual property rights and litigation.
• Maintain and update case files, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, including drafting applications.
• A technical background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
• Registered to practice before the USPTO.
• Admission to the North Carolina State Bar.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• High-level organizational and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong academic background.

Education:

• A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field such as physics or mathematics.

Certifications:

• Must be registered with the USPTO.
• Must be licensed to practice law in North Carolina.

Skills:

• Patent application drafting and prosecution.
