Job Location: Uniondale, NY

Job Overview: A prominent law firm is seeking a highly motivated Defense Litigation Associate Attorney with a focus on asbestos litigation to join their growing Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team. This role will involve representing asbestos defendants in various industries across state and federal courts nationwide, collaborating with colleagues across multiple offices, and managing complex litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have substantial deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters, with a preference for those with specific asbestos defense experience.

Duties:

  • Take and defend depositions regularly in toxic tort matters
  • Conduct thorough legal research and assist senior attorneys in developing defense strategies
  • Manage cases through resolution, including dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
  • Represent clients at courtroom appearances and hearings
  • Collaborate with co-counsel in multiple jurisdictions
  • Meet the firm's annual billable hour requirement of 1900 hours

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters
  • Prior asbestos defense experience is highly preferred
  • Admission to the New York Bar is required
  • Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar (or ability to waive into NJ) is a plus
  • Proficiency in using Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms for depositions and court conferences
  • Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel as necessary
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Ability to absorb and process new information quickly

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York Bar (required)
  • Additional bar admissions (Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey) are preferred

Skills:

  • Strong litigation and courtroom experience
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced research and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload in a deadline-driven environment
