Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking a skilled mid-level associate attorney to join its dynamic Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group in Washington, DC. This role offers the opportunity to handle a broad range of patent prosecution matters, including application drafting, and collaborate with a team of experienced professionals in a supportive and growing practice.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in a variety of technical fields, including mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to develop and implement intellectual property strategies.
  • Conduct patentability analyses, freedom-to-operate searches, and patent infringement assessments.
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions, including legal arguments and amendments.
  • Maintain effective communication with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other relevant authorities.
  • Provide counsel on patent-related legal matters, including patent litigation, patent portfolio management, and intellectual property protection strategies.
  • Stay updated on patent law developments and industry trends.
  • Mentor junior associates and support team development efforts.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on application drafting.
  • Strong understanding of patent law, particularly in the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in Washington, DC.
  • Must be registered with the USPTO.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related technical field.

Certifications:

  • Bar admission in Washington, DC.
  • USPTO Registration is required.

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of patent prosecution procedures and patent law.
  • Proficiency in drafting patent applications and handling office actions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with both clients and colleagues.
