Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Sterling, VA, is seeking an associate attorney to join their dynamic criminal law practice. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse caseload, handling cases from initial consultation through trial in both state and federal courts. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with senior attorneys while receiving mentorship and exposure to a variety of legal matters in the criminal law domain.

Duties:

  • Conduct initial client consultations and evaluate cases
  • Draft, edit, and file pleadings for case initiation and responses
  • Perform legal research and draft memoranda for complex legal issues
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and witnesses
  • Oversee discovery processes, including requests, responses, and objections
  • Coordinate trial preparations with legal assistants and paralegals
  • Appear in Virginia state and federal courts for hearings and trials

Requirements:

  • An active member of the Virginia State Bar, in good standing
  • 2-3 years of experience preferred
  • Proficiency in legal research, particularly using LexisAdvance
  • Strong interest in criminal law
  • Exceptional legal writing and drafting skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines efficiently
  • Strong analytical skills to address complex legal issues
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and outside professionals
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
