Job Overview

A regional insurance defense law firm is seeking a licensed Associate Attorney to join its Workers' Compensation practice. This role is ideal for attorneys admitted to the Utah State Bar, with an interest or experience in workers' compensation law, and a desire to grow within a collaborative and client-focused legal team. Duties

  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and briefs related to workers’ compensation matters

  • Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and trials

  • Advise clients on workers’ compensation claims and compliance issues

  • Develop legal strategies and analyze case details to formulate strong defenses

  • Prepare summaries and case updates for clients and insurance carriers

  • Participate in discovery, including reviewing medical records and conducting depositions

  • Collaborate with supervising attorneys, paralegals, and administrative staff

  • Support litigation efforts including preparing for trial and administrative proceedings

Requirements

  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload and meet deadlines

  • Ability to communicate professionally with clients, adjusters, medical professionals, and legal teams

  • Proficiency in reviewing and analyzing medical records and legal documents

  • Ability to independently research and interpret statutes, regulations, and case law

  • Willingness to grow within a fast-paced insurance defense practice

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Licensed and in good standing with the Utah State Bar

  • Admission to the Colorado or Arizona Bar is a plus

Skills

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication

  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation law and procedures (preferred)

  • Familiarity with civil litigation and insurance defense

  • Negotiation and litigation preparation skills

  • Proficiency with legal research platforms (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw)

  • Familiarity with medical terminology (preferred)

  • Effective time management and organization
